Wisdom Teeth Extractions

We Extract Wisdom Teeth (Including Impacted)
We take care of our patients throughout the entire wisdom tooth extraction process: Pre-treatment, day of your procedure & post-treatment care. When you book an appointment with regards to your wisdom teeth, we'll take x-rays and discuss your case, and provide you with treatment options that are best suited for you! On the day of your extraction, we make you feel at ease and relaxed by properly preparing you for the procedure and answering any questions you may need reassurance for. After a successful extraction, we'll assist you with best practices, a pain management plan while you recover, and all the support you need. Tooth extractions may seem intimidating to some patients, but they are very common and usually a routine procedure. There's nothing to fear, our team will make you feel comfortable throughout each and every stage of the entire process.
Impacted Teeth
We can assist with fully impacted and partially impacted teeth. Impacted teeth are teeth that haven't broken through the gums and reside completely below the gum line. Partially impacted teeth have a portion of the tooth that is erupted/exposed to the oral cavity. The rest of the tooth sits below the gum line and won't fully erupt into place. This senerio is very common and the patient will experience pain and discomfort when an infection develops due to trapped bacteria.

Invisalign ©

Once considered only for teens, orthodontic treatments are now being utilized by an increasing number of adults who wish to correct crooke or crowded teeth. With innovations like Invisalign, it is easier than ever to correct these misaligned teeth, hence, gifting us with a beautiful straighter smile! Why should you consider orthodontics? Crowded or crooked teeth are hard to clean, making them more vulnerable to decay. Overbites and underbites can cause discomfort and jaw pain. Gaps and crowding can also diminish the appearance of your smile. Dentistry on Campus is pleased to offer Invisalign - clear, removable aligners that gradually shift your teeth into place. Invisalign aligners are custom-fitted to your teeth to offer you an effective and comfortable option for straightening your teeth. To learn more about solutions for your crowded, spaced or misaligned teeth, contact our office and speak to a member of our team.

Dental Implant Services

Dental implants from Dentistry on Campus are the ideal solution to fill a gap in your smile. A dental implant consists of an artificial root made of titanium that's inserted into the jaw bone to replace your natural root. Once this is done, then an artificial tooth, known as a crown, is affixed to the titanium implant. The implant acts as an anchor to hold the crown in place. We also colour match the crown, made of either porcelain or zirconia, your real teeth for a completed beautiful seamless smile.

More About Polanight
POLANIGHT is the high viscosity, neutral pH tooth whitening gel that ensures the greatest patient comfort for use in custom made trays. The unique blend of soothers, conditioners and high water content assist in reducing sensitivity. The formation of plaque and tooth decay is significantly reduced.
Natural Soother And Conditioner
The incorporation of special additives minimizes plaque formation and enhances remineralization to further reduce sensitivity.
High Water Content
The high water content of the gel reduces dehydration of the enamel and decreases patient sensitivity.
High Molecular Weight Thickener
This reduces the tacky feeling and drying effect of the gel in turn reducing sensitivity further.
High Viscosity
The high viscosity gel ensures it can be easily and securely placed into the tray and remains in the tray for the entire procedure.
Fluoride Releasing
The addition of fluoride remineralizes the tooth surface assisting in reducing post-operative sensitivity.
Contains Desensitizing Agents
The Pola Day and Pola Night gels contain a desensitizing agent which acts on the nerve endings, and desensitizes them at the pulp-dentin border in turn minimizing sensitivity and maximizing patient comfort.
Taste
The pleasantly flavoured spearmint gel is both fresh and long lasting.
Neutral PH
Pola Day and Pola Nights' neutral pH ensures the full release of the peroxide without jeopardizing patient comfort.

In Office Whitening
Whiter Teeth In Just 30 Minutes Treatment Time!
Pola's unique formulation dissolves and releases the active whitening ingredient immediately to initiate the whitening process. By breaking down and releasing the peroxide ions fast, Pola's whitening process is triggered and UV light therapy is used to accelerate the process. Polaoffice contains peroxide to safely whiten teeth in 30 minutes at a neutral pH to protect your tooth and gums. Both UV and blue lights, used in teeth whitening, incorporate a hydrogen peroxide solution applied to the teeth. By combining the energy emitted by blue light or UV light with peroxide, teeth whitening lights are proven to significantly lighten the colour of teeth compared to the results of peroxide alone.
Protecting Your Teeth And Gums
Polaoffice is designed to protect your sensitive dental nerves and nerve endings with Pola Desensitizing Technology (PDT). The combination of neutral pH and PDT reduces the likelihood of gum irritation, burning, pain or long term gum damage. Prior to whitening with Polaoffice, a gingival barrier is applied to protect gums.
Convenience
Polaoffice requires 1 x 30 minute visit to your dentist to achieve whiter teeth. The ease and convenience of Polaoffice PDT enables you to achieve whiter teeth while protecting your teeth and gums. Polaoffice only requires a thin layer to be applied and can be easily cleared away, which minimizes your total time at the dentist.

Tooth & Dental Fillings - (Restorative Dentistry)

Tooth Filling Services (Restorative Dentistry)
Fillings that are tooth coloured, are also called composite restorations, resin restorations, white fillings or dental bonding. They are an aesthetically appealing alternative to mercury amalgam (silver) fillings. These fillings match your natural tooth colour, they are very durable and long lasting. Composite fillings can repair cracks, gaps, chipped teeth and decayed teeth.
Tooth Filling (Restorative) Services
These fillings are placed in thin layers on teeth that have been decayed or have fractured to restore the tooth to it's original form. These fillings are made up of a mixture of plastic and acrylic materials. They have a very natural tooth like appearance and can be used on any tooth in your mouth. Throughout the years these fillings have improved significantly in strength and its seal to the tooth. This reduces the risk of leakage. At Dentistry on Campus we strive to restore your tooth to its most natural like appearance. We sculpt your resin fillings with various instruments, and then polish them to look very aesthetically pleasing. Our goal is to restore your tooth to health but also to beautify it to what it should be. If you have any questions regarding this procedure please do not hesitate to contact us.
Teeth (Dental) Bonding Services
Dental bonding is a very comfortable way to beautify or repair teeth that are slightly chipped discoulored or crooked. The material used is a white filling material, called composite resin, that matches your tooth and is placed on the tooth to improve its appearance. At Dentistry on Campus, prior to starting the bonding procedure, we check the shade of your teeth and will try on a material so that we can make sure that we have a shade that blends in beautifully with your natural teeth. This material bonds with your teeth and has a very natural like appearance. Bonding is much more affordable than other cosmetic treatments such as veneers and can easily be completed in one visit. Do keep in mind that bonding can stain overtime and can be easier to fracture compared to porcelain veneers.

Oral Cancer Screenings Services

Oral cancer is on the rise in Canada and unfortunately is can be deadly. According to www.cancer.ca, an estimated 5,400 Canadians will be diagnosed with oral cancer and 1,500 Canadians will die from it. Early detection is paramount in beating it before it spreads or becomes fatal. Our team at Dentistry on Campus can screen for oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning & Dental Hygiene Services

Dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease. Dental hygiene and oral health are very often taken for granted but are essential parts of our everyday lives. Dental hygiene services are comprehensive services that refer to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease.

What is Gingivitis?
Gingivitis is also known commonly as inflammation of the gums. It is an early sign of Periodontal (Gum) Disease from which 9 out of 10 Canadians will have at least once in their lifetime.

Causes of Gingivitis
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums caused by a sticky film known as bacterial plaque that settles along the gum line. This plaque has a thick cottage cheese like consistency, and can turn orange in colour if left standing (untouched) for prolonged periods of time.

Plaque
Plaque is a sticky, white-yellow film made up of bacteria, proteins and mucous which constantly forms in your mouth, and is excreted in our saliva. Plaque starts to settle on our teeth as early as 20min after we have last brushed.

Tartar
Tartar is hardened plaque sitting on our teeth. This is an accumulation of minerals from saliva and food. Once tartar has formed, and calcified on our teeth it can no longer be removed with daily brushing and/or flossing. Tarter has has very rough texture, and easily attracts more bacteria. This then leads to a thick wall of bacteria hardened on teeth and must be professionally removed by a dental hygienist. This form of treatment is called dental scaling. Tartar can form either above or below the gum line in pockets between teeth and gums. These pockets allow bacteria to settle and grow. The bacteria excrete toxins that cause damage to the tissues and the bone that supports the teeth. This leads to periodontal (gum) disease.

How Can I Prevent Gingivitis?
Foremost it is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day with an electric toothbrush, floss daily and use an anti-microbial rinse such as Listerine for at least 1 minute. Even with an excellent regime at home, plaque will still sneak in between our gums and teeth and settle in the pockets. This can lead to bone loss, and eventual tooth loss, if left untreated. A professional cleaning by one of our dental hygienists will remove/ flush out this bacteria to maintain a healthy smile.

Common Signs of Periodontal Disease
Red or blueish-red, swollen and tender gums
Bleeding gums
Bad breath (Halitosis)
Sensitive teeth
Receding gums, gums that are pulling away from the teeth causing the teeth to look longer due to exposed root surfaces
Loose/wiggly teeth

Periodontal Treatment
Gum disease is caused by a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Plaque is always forming on teeth, but if it is not cleaned well, it will harden on the teeth and the bacteria in plaque can cause gums to become inflamed. When this happens, the gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces called pockets. Plaque then gets trapped in these pockets and cannot be removed with regular brushing. Untreated gum disease can lead to bone and eventual tooth loss. If the periodontal pockets are too deep, then a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) is necessary to remove the plaque in these pockets. A referral to a periodontist may also be necessary. Scaling and root planing is to carefully clean the root surfaces of teeth and to remove plaque and calculus from deep periodontal pockets. This allows us to smoothen the root surface to remove bacterial toxins, and to prevent other toxins from settling.

Dental Veneers

A dental veneer acts as a thin layer or a shell, placed xfover an existing tooth usually to cover a chipped tooth or discolouration. It's usually made of either composite resin or dental porcelain. At Dentistry on Campus, we only use quality materials (porcelain, zirconia or e-max) for our dental veneers as they are stronger than composite resin veneers, and do not stain nor do they change colour over time. The veneers are bonded to the front of the tooth to enhance the appearance of your smile. They are permanently placed.

Dental Appliances & TMJ Treatment

Nightguards & TMJ Appliances
We're proud to offer, custom-made nightguards and day guards for our patients that are clenching throughout the day, and sportsguards/mouthguards. We create custom molds of your teeth to ensure your dental appliance fits perfectly and is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time: during playing sports or all night long etc. If you're experiencing pain in/around the ear, jaw joint, or the muscles of the jaw or temples, we can create custom guards that can help.

How Do Night Guards Work?
Once you've decided to protect the integrity of your teeth and get a night guard, simply make an appointment at our office so that we can take an impression/mould of your teeth. After about a week or two, a dental lab will have created a custom night guard especially for you. Night guards act like a cushion /buffer between your upper and lower teeth. It's very simple to use and all you have to do is insert it at night before bed and take it out in the morning. After removing the night guard, we recommend cleaning it daily with a soft brush and liquid hand soap, if you find there is still some calcium build up on the guard, baking soda and water work well too. Some patients produce more calcium in their saliva and may need something stronger to remove the residue. In this case, a with a denture/retainer cleaner from your local pharmacy can be used.

Night Guard - For Teeth Grinding (BRUXING) at Night
There may be some mornings that you wake up and find that you have a headache, or your jaw is REALLY sore OR your teeth are sensitive or even loose! These are classic signs that you have been busy grinding or clenching your teeth during the entire night. Over time you will notice that your teeth are shorter than they used to be, especially your front lower teeth and upper teeth. Unfortunately, this is common in 1 out of 10 adults and if you are noticing any of these signs then it is about time to consider a night guard.

A night guard provides many benefits:
- Forms a layer of protection/ shock absorption between your upper and lower teeth
- Provides a softer -but firm cushion that wears down over time, instead of your teeth wearing down
- Takes the stress of your jaw and provides a different position for it to rest which is really therapeutic for your TMJ muscles
- Provides full support for your jaw because it is custom especially for your beautiful smile
Stress is a large factor in teeth clenching and grinding, but this doesn't always happen at night. Some people will unknowingly do so while they are driving (road rage), working out or lifting weights, or even while at work. In this case, they may need a grinding guard for day time use. This is called a GELB appliance and we can custom make one just for you.

What If I Don't Get A Night Guard (BRUXISM APPLIANCE), What Will Happen?
The purpose of night guards is preventative so you can avoid chipping or fracturing your teeth. Fracturing your teeth can lead to extensive dental work, root canal treatment or in severe cases even loss of your teeth! A night guard stops the attrition of your teeth which can be perceived as premature aging. If you don't wear a night guard, you may be putting yourself at risk for more extensive restorative dentistry down the road.
Examples of teeth that go untreated:

How Can You Help Prevent Teeth Grinding/Bruxing?
In addition to wearing a night guard (which can in some case break the habit of clenching/grinding) , we also recommend lifestyle improvements to help decrease your stress levels like exercising, meditation, yoga and more. Reducing your smoking and alcohol consumption is also helpful because they have been identified as risk factors to teeth grinding as well

How Much Does a Custom Fitted Night Guard Cost?
Custom made night guards are only available through your dental professional. Since they are preventative nature, they are often a benefit covered by most insurance plans. To determine coverage please don't hesitate to ask our reception team for an estimate. Regardless of the presence or absence of dental insurance, not only will a night guard appliance improve your quality of sleep, decrease your headaches and it may deter more expensive dentistry in the future, which is far more expensive!!

Periodontal Surgery

Gingival Tissue Graft
Why are gum grafts performed? If your gums are receding, we may recommend a gingival tissue graft. Gum recession exposes the roots of your teeth, this can cause the root surface of your teeth to become more likely to decay, as well as be more sensitive and prone to abrasion/wear. A gum graft, also known as a gingival graft, can correct receding gums.

More About Gum Grafting
In a gum graft, your dentist will first remove a piece of tissue from the roof of your mouth or harvest from nearby healthy tissue. This is then attached to the area where your gums have been worn away (receded).
There are three types of gum grafts:
- free gingival graft
- connective tissue graft
- pedicle (lateral) graft
Your dentist will discuss these options with you and make their recommendation based on your individual needs. Once you've decided to have the procedure done, all you have to do is show up. Your dentist will confirm the type of graft being placed.

What Can You Expect During The Procedure?
When arriving at your appointment, you will be checked in and our assistants will escort you into the procedure room. Local anesthesia will be used to numb the area where the procedure will be done. Depending on your individual needs, your dentist will perform one of the following:
- Free Gingival Graft: A small piece of tissue is removed from the roof of your mouth and sutured (stitched) to the area that needs gum tissue. You'll likely get this type of graft if your gums are thin and need extra tissue to prevent further recession.
- Connective Tissue Graft: Your dentist opens a small flap in the roof of your mouth and removes a piece of connective tissue from under the top layer of tissue. This tissue is stitched to the area that needs gum tissue. This is the most common type of graft.
- Pedicle Graft: A flap of tissue from an area right next to your gum recession is taken and used to cover the area of receding gum tissue. In this procedure, gum tissue is moved over the recession with local tissue rather than being taken from another part of your mouth. This type of graft is usually the most successful because it doesn't cut off blood flow in any part of your mouth. For this to work, you need plenty of gum tissue in the areas around your gum recession. The procedure usually doesn't take too long. Once your dentist has finished suturing up the graft, they will give you an antibacterial mouthwash to use and discuss how to care for the graft until it's completely healed.

How Much Does A Gum Graft Cost?
Gum grafts can cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. If you're insured, this procedure may be covered in full or at little out-of-pocket cost to you. You may be able to have the procedure done for free if you have a good dental plan,

What To Expect During Recovery
You'll be able to go home shortly after the procedure is done. During the first week or two of recovery, try to eat soft, cold foods to make sure you don't damage the graft. You shouldn't eat hard or hot foods that can burn or irritate the graft.
Good foods for the recovery period include:
- eggs, especially scrambled or soft-boiled
- soup (not too hot or spicy)
- yogurt/ smoothie
- vegetables that have been cooked until they're soft
- cottage cheese
- ice cream
- Jell-O
Your dentist will likely recommend that you use an antimicrobial mouthwash for a couple of weeks to prevent infections, plaque buildup on your teeth, or issues with the graft. You shouldn't brush or floss in that area until we say it's safe to do so. Brushing or flossing before the area has healed can open the wound, destroy the graft or cause an infection. If you're dealing with any pain or discomfort, over-the-counter pain medications, such as Advil or Aleve, may provide relief. Don't exercise or perform any strenuous activities until your doctor says it's fine to do them.

Are There Possible Complications?
Complications of a gum graft are quite rare. Infections are fairly uncommon. If you notice any oozing or unexpected bleeding around the graft site, give us a call immediately. In rare cases, the graft tissue may not properly adapt to the graft site. You may need to have the procedure performed again if this happens. You may not like the way the graft looks after it's fully healed. If so, talk to us about gingivoplasty (reshaping of gum tissue). They may be able to modify the tissue to make it look more pleasing to you.
